2016 AQP

(Last Updated: May 4th, 2016) Looking for a new management group. Any individual, group or club. Probably only takes about two or three people to manage and conduct this activity. This would be a great time to get involved as I will just start working on the publicity, etc. If you are interested, contact me at 334-886-2883 or via email at KC4HW at centurytel dot net.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the AQP one day or two?
  • What is the object/purpose of the AQP?
  • What are the suggested operating frequencies?
  • What are the best county to operate from?
  • What logging program should I use?
  • Why no printed certificates?
  • Why has the plaque program been discontinued?
  • Why a new management group?

  • Is the AQP one day or two?
    • The AQP is a 12 hour event that starts at 11 AM CDST Saturday morning and ends at 11PM CDST Saturday evening. Because most amatuers are use to working with Universal Time (ZULU Time) then it may appears that it is two days, but really it is just 12 hours on Saturday.

  • What are the best counties for Mobile operation?
    • Actually this changes every year. But generally, those counties that have Interstate and Primary highways generally get the most attention from the Mobile stations, because these highways allow the mobiles to reach the most counties in the shortest period of time. However, those counties that lie in the "not so beaten path" and have the fewest number of local participants often will generate the most interest from those outside of Alabama.

  • What is the object/purpose of the AQP?
    • Those stations in Alabama should work as many stations as they can worldwide. This includes Alabama stations, US states, Canadian Provinces and DX. Stations outside of Alabama will be trying to work as many Alabama stations and Alabama Counties as they can on different bands/mode.

  • What are the suggested operating frequencies?
    • Look at the Rules and paragraph 8 gives a pretty good rundown of the suggested operating frequencies and those frequencies that should be avoided.

  • What is the best county to operate from?
    • In the 11+ years that I have been involved, we have only had all counties activity two times! Each year it has been different counties with no activity. Hard to say which would be the best. I might suggest that you take a look at the Alabama Records on the left side of this page for those counties that have really low scores.

  • What logging program should I use?
  • There are a multitude of logging programs, but really any program that will support and output the Cabrillo formatted will be satisfactory. Be sure that the appropriate exchange information is properly reported in your log.

  • Why no printed Certificates?
  • The cost has become prohibited. It can cost $3.00+ from US Hams and $4.00 for DX Hams to print and mail certificates. The number changes each year, but there can be 60 or more certificates each year.
We still have certificates that can be download from the results page each year. If you have trouble with this just let me know and I will try to help you out.

  • Why have the plaque program been discountinued?
  • There are several reasons, the primary reason was that could not find a volunteer to manage the program.

  • Why new management?
  • My first AQP was in 2005 and have been involved in it every since. There probably are some things that need to be changed to make it more appealing to the Hams today. Unfortunately I am not willing to do all the work to make that happen.

If you are interested or perhaps a small group (club) is interested then give me a call and I will be glad to further discuss this with you. By the way, if some would like to take it over, I will be glad to step aside and let you have completely or I will sit in the background and try to help where I can. Let me know.

  • Please use the links to the left for the lastest rules. There have been changes, so please look them over closely. Also check out the county abbreviations as they have also changed. If you have any questions, please let me know at kc4hw{at}alabamaqsoparty{dot}org.
  • A Word about Corrections: I try to make the results, scoring and webpages error free, but in an effort to get the information published, there are errors, typos, etc. that just creep in and go undetected in different documents. Please let me know if you see anything that needs attention and I will get corrections made as soon as possible. Thanks!
